Veterans Primed for Technology Jobs

When they re-enter the work force after service, veterans in Ohio and the rest of the nation are primed for technology jobs.

As reported recently in The New York Times, more than 220,000 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are looking for work. And a reported 67,500 veterans are homeless nationwide.

With a goal of ending veteran homelessness by 2015, The White House and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs challenged the private sector to hire more veterans. Many companies in the technology sector, including HP, Google and Microsoft, have stepped up to the plate and are working with The White House to hire 100,000 veterans by 2013 which is great news!

But the advantages are not limited to the veterans. Technology companies are beginning to realize, that many young veterans already have skills that meet their organizations’ needs – such as computer security and SQL experience – and companies can receive a tax credit for hiring veterans. Take a look at the infographic below (via PayScale) to see what types of technology jobs veterans are finding.
